In the southern part of South America, Argentina and Chile share the Patagonia region.
Eastern Patagonia in Argentina is very sparsely populated. Patagonia is the land of pampas and steppe-like plains in the rain shadow of the Andes. Characteristic is the everlasting, strong wind. In the Chilean part of Patagonia you can find the humid, cool climate of the Westanden and the associated Valdivian rainforest.
