Dr. Pohlmann's Haderheck Spring — Königstein im Taunus
Origin
The Haderheck spring is located in Königstein im Taunus, deep within the Taunus Nature Park. It was discovered in the 1960s by Dr. Hans-Jörg Pohlmann when the floor of his new garage simply would not dry out. His investigation led him to a self-sustaining artesian spring. Originating in a purely residential area, the water was initially sold nationwide as a certified healing water in square litre bottles through pharmacies and health food stores. After the discoverer's death, operations ceased entirely. Since 2019, the spring water has been available again — now sold as Dr. Pohlmann's Haderheck Spring Water in 750 ml glass bottles.
The Mystery of the Water
What makes this water special is also what makes it puzzling. The geological origin remains unknown to this day. With a TDS of just 145 mg/l, the water tastes like something with a mineral content of 40–60 mg/l — softer, rounder, and slightly sweeter than the numbers would suggest. The faint sweetness in the aftertaste would normally only be expected at a pH of 8 or above. Experts believe the water may have travelled underground from hundreds of kilometres away. This water raises questions — and that is part of what it is.
Among its exceptional properties, the Haderheck spring is one of the very few sources in Germany that is naturally and completely nitrate-free.
Bottling
Gentle, pressure-free extraction directly at the source. Bottled in high-quality, fresh glass bottles. No treatment, no added carbonation for the still version — a finely tuned perlage for the gently sparkling variant.
Profile
Taste: very clear, soft, silky, neutral in aroma, with a faint sweetness in the finish. Mineralization: balanced, low in sodium, nitrate-free. Mouthfeel: naturally soft and calm in the still version — gently sparkling with a fine, restrained perlage. Suitability: due to its very low sodium content and exceptional purity, it meets the criteria for the preparation of infant formula.
Pairing
Ideal with fine dishes, exquisite wines, and sophisticated spirits. It complements aromas without overpowering them. Suited for fine dining environments and precise tastings.
Origin and Protection
The spring lies deep within the rock of the Taunus Nature Park, where it is optimally protected against contamination. Strictly limited production ensures consistently exceptional quality. The natural bottling process preserves the original character and the fresh, clean taste.
"An incomparable water with outstanding properties and a delicate taste. For me, one of the Top 10 waters in Germany." Pat Eckert, Water Sommelier
"Obviously, it's a very round, smooth, always velvety water. The aftertaste is slightly sweet. Incredibly good water, unusual for Germany. This water has character." Martin Riese, Water Sommelier
"It feels extremely round and soft, but it's not too light. It has body, it has character — there's a little bit of sweetness, there's no acidity." Dr. Michael Mascha, Fine Water Society
